Why Art and Nature?

Our conviction and experience is that Natural Arts can teach many of the lessons that we need to live healthy and happy together.

How can that be?

Art and Nature both drop the human mind into a different state of awareness, allowing us to expand who we are and forget about the stuff we need to.  Value judgments, stress, and other limiting beliefs are dissolved away, and students of all ages experience life in a fresh way.

Natural Arts is not only entertainment, but also awareness that through interaction with the student body, profound lessons emerge Naturally.

Calming, soothing, expanding, and joyful, Natural Arts are the short track to learning at the unconscious level, which will then affect the other levels of awareness organically.

Join us as we develop our teaching facilities at Hill Hold Museum through an organic farm, and check in as we create programming in Warwick at Doc Fry Community Center.

1. Mood Through Breath

Intro to Connections between Breath and Mood – 2 hours

10-20 students

Learn Basic Motions where we expand our awareness of breath and body, both calming our state of mind and charging the body’s batteries with natural energy.

When repeated daily, certain motions will strengthen the mind-body connection and provide lasting calm in the nervous system, personal power through stillness, and release past trauma from body tissues.  Great for people of all ages.

2. Natural Powers

Intro to the Four Elements / Four Seasons – 2 hours

10-20 students

Learn about the connections between the elements, seasons and directions.  Develop inner power through your connection to Nature.

Over time, the awareness of our connections to the world around us, the cycles and patterns which we are part of, helps to integrate our self into a larger concept of life.  Understanding our right place in Nature helps the students to integrate themselves into the world in a peaceful way.  Balancing our self through visualization and awareness gives the student a new tool that heightens ability to focus, to achieve positive goals, by finding inner strength through their connection to Nature.

3. Journeying for Strength

Intro to Inner Journeying and Imagination  – 6 hours

10-20 students

Acquire a deeper understanding of the basics of using the imagination for journeying through mind and body techniques. Take a brief Vision Quest to strengthen and relax at once.

In ancient times mankind used natural techniques to find connect to nature and strengthen their place in the world.  We have heard of power animals, power places, and connections to the four elements that also gave them vital force when called upon.  Learn more about how to delve into your self to connect with your strength, which can be called upon daily to develop lasting vitality, both mentally, emotionally and physically.

Imagination is the key to changing your life.  In this workshop we will first develop physical power through yoga, journey within through simple meditation techniques, and use artwork and writing to portray our personal Inner Vision Quest.  Sharing our experiences deepens our awareness of others importance, and heightens peer respect and support.

4. Mysterious Geometries

Explore the ancient mystery of Geometry and use it in artwork.

10-20 students

Connecting to the geometries that create reality around us gives fresh perspective.

Everything in nature is based on the simple principles of specific geometries.  Geometry is fun and easy when used in artwork and students will gain appreciation of the underlying principles of mathematics and science that apply to nature, and then become creators themselves by using geometry in art.

Can also lead to profound awareness of our interconnectedness through geometries.

5. Art Builds Community

Group Silk Painting to deepen awareness of the Power of Cooperation – 4 hours

20-30 students

Deepen students respect for one another and themselves by painting a group work that is both easy for beginners and luminous.

Painting on silk is easy enough for children of any age, as well as beginners of any skill level.  Because the Silks allow light to pass through, they have a quality of light similar to stained glass, and are great for display and for fundraising.

As the instructor focuses the group on a particular subject matter through storytelling and guided visualization, the students’ awareness comes together around one subject.  Next, they approach the canvas and decide how to approach their project.  Because the lines on the silk become hard and fast, and the paint runs only to the hard edges of the lines, its relaxing to paint and easy to design.

Watch how the pieces of each student come together to create a beautiful whole that teaches about the power of collaboration and cooperation.  Acquire skills around communication and creativity that translate into all aspects of life.

6. Nature of Vision Quest

Reclaim your Power and Inner Vision and create your own art on to take home.

- 20 hours (7 classes or one weekend)

Easy painting techniques and strengthening Yoga practices are perfect for all students.  Discover Sacred Geometries, Inner Vision Questing and Silk Painting in a series of interrelated classes.  Use Sacred Geometries to create Harmony in artwork and mind alike.

Step One - Introduction to the concept of the Universal Wheel of Elements (earth air fire water) and an Interactive Group Silk painting to warm up.

Step Two - Yoga practice, Suryanamaskara A and B with added postures focusing on strong angles and threading the consciousness with breath.  Includes guided meditation.  Special focus on Third Eye chakra for Inner Vision.

Step Three - Brief discussion of the power of Symbolism and the Unconscious.  Create a mandala-like sketch with sacred geometries to be used after Visioning to create a template to be traced onto canvas.  A guided walk through the Universal Wheel of Elements helps students to find their center and retrieve meaningful messages from within, which they will use to fuel creativity and empowerment.

Step Four
– Begin artwork after a brief guided meditation.  Use previous sketch to develop a drawing to trace onto the silk.  Canvasses will be prepared for painting and may be discussed.  Brief talk about color values and color symbolism.

Step Five –
Paint on Silk canvasses.

Step Six - Paint on Silk canvasses.

Step Seven - Finish artwork and share.  Solidify new experience and learning through fun dialogue with others.  Final light yoga to integrate through breath and movement.
